Launch of the Wilfred Owen Trail

Local writer and library volunteer D.B. Lewis gave an illustrated talk on Wilfred Owen’s time in Scarborough to a keen audience of 30 at the library on 12 September 2018. The event launched the new Owen Map and Trail published by Bryn Stowe Publications of Cloughton. The map designed by Robert Parkinson was sponsored by local organisations connected to the Owen story and is available free of charge from the town’s museums and connected locations. The audience heard many interesting facts about the people of the Owen Trail as well as the Scarborough locations connected to the war poet. A selection of Owen’s poetry was read by fellow writers Felix Hodcroft and Tony Howson of the Scarborough Poetry Workshop. The event was followed by a lively gathering over refreshments with all proceeds going to the library funds. The photo shows Trustee June Watson (back, left) with volunteers Karen Torkington (seated) and Sharon Coman displaying the map of the Owen Trail.
Volunteers enjoy refreshments in the library’s new cafe area, with furniture provided with a grant from the Two Ridings Community Foundation www.trcf.org.uk
