Summer Reading Challenge 2018

The Summer Reading Challenge for 4-11 year olds starts on Saturday at the library, which is open 10am – 1.30pm. This year’s theme is ‘Mischief Makers’, inspired by the much-loved comic The Beano which is celebrating its 80th anniversary. Children are encouraged to read 6 library books or more and receive special rewards each time they read 2 books. Children’s reading can ‘dip, during the summer holidays if they don’t have regular access to books and the challenge helps them to keep up their reading skills and confidence. Everyone who completes the challenge receives a certificate, presented in their school assembly if they wish. The library is working with Barrowcliff, Newby & Scalby, Lindhead and Hackness Schools to promote the scheme and the special events being organised alongside it. All events are free but ring the library (01609 534059) or call in to book a place and avoid disappointment.
