Best Yorkshire Books to Read During Lockdown

We were contacted by Raven Hall Hotel and asked to recommend some of the best books set in Yorkshire that people could read during lockdown. Here’s the published article https://www.ravenhall.co.uk/
The books we recommended were
Big Sky by Kate Atkinson (The story begins near Whitby and she hails from York)
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall – Anne Bronte is buried in Scarborough.
A DCI Banks novel by Peter Robinson
The Sea Lady by Margaret Drabble
God’s Own Country by Ross Raisin
The Woman in Black from Scarborough born Susan Hill
Dracula – Bram Stoker
Last Train to Scarborough – Andrew Martin
Death at the Seaside – Frances Brody
Yorkshire Vet – James Herriott
Our Chairman, Isobel, added, “I would also recommend a non-fiction book The Floating Egg: Episodes in the making of Geology by Roger Osborne. This is ideal for anyone staying at Raven Hall as so much is based in the area. Who would have thought that the whole history of geology as a science was born between Whitby and Scarborough! It sounds dry but it’s full of interesting anecdotes and fascinating explanations written in a very compelling way”.
