The Trustees reluctantly took the decision NOT to re-open the library on Monday 4 January as planned, when Scarborough was moved into Tier 3, and then the country went into the 3rd national lockdown. This, in itself, does not prevent us from opening for a very limited service. However, although covid numbers in Scarborough have come down, they are still high. We are also conscious that the new variant of the virus accounts for 60% of infections nationally and its increased transmissibility substantially increases the risks for everyone visiting and working in the library.
Obviously, no fines will be charged. Books may be returned through the library’s letterbox if customers wish. The return date for all items has been extended to 1 March 2021.
The Home Library will continue to operate. Obviously, we will keep the matter under constant review and will keep customers informed of any developments. We hope 2021 is a much happier year for everyone and can’t wait to put our exciting plans for the future into operation.
