THE KING’S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE
We’re thrilled to share the news that our library has been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE. This year we are one of only 281 charities across the UK to receive the award. It is a wonderful acknowledgement of the outstanding voluntary work and time given by our 62 volunteers in support of our local community and of the support we receive from our customers and local people and businesses like Proudfoots’ Making A Difference Locally. We look forward to receiving a crystal award and certificate from Lord Lieutenant Jo Ropner in due course. Norman Bear and two of our volunteers will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May or June 2025! We are absolutely delighted that our group has been recognised in this way.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to support their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and, was continued following the accession of His Majesty The King. 2024 marks the second year of The King’s Award for Voluntary Service. Recipients are announced annually on 14th November, The King’s Birthday. Award winners this year are wonderfully diverse and include volunteer groups from across the UK.
Isobel Nixon, Chairman of the Library Trustees, said: “We are absolutely delighted that our group’s work has been recognised in this way. We work hard to provide both a library service and a welcoming space for our thriving community groups. We could not have done this without the commitment and hard work of our volunteers and local people who contribute so much to support and sustain this important resource.’’
