The Library Wins a Lottery Grant!

We are thrilled to announce that the Library has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from the National Lottery Awards for All Fund. Chairman of Trustees, Isobel Nixon said, “Our successful bid is fantastic news for our customers and volunteers. The money will be used to improve the library building and facilities and increase its sustainability. The old fluorescent lights will be replaced by LED low energy lighting, which will make our electricity bills cheaper. Window blinds at the rear of the library will help keep it cool in summer and will also make using the building more comfortable when it’s sunny. Arrangements have already been made to install CCTV cameras outside and inside the library, and a new door sensor will improve the performance of the entrance doors. We have bought comfortable stacking chairs for meetings and talks, and intend to purchase furniture for a new cafe area. Finally we will be installing a display screen to keep our customers up to date with the many things happening at Newby and Scalby Library. Other plans for the future include the development of our garden which was incredibly popular in our recent survey. We will be seeking separate, dedicated funding for this.”
