The People’s Projects – A Community Garden for the Library

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who voted for us to secure £18,900 of National Lottery funding as part of this year’s People’s Projects. We can now go ahead with our Growing our Community project which aims to provide a garden at the rear of the library with access for all. We were one of three successful groups in the ITV Calendar region who were in the running for a share of a life-changing pot of £3 million up for grabs across the UK.
The six trustees who run the library on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council with a group of 50 dedicated volunteers hope the new garden will contribute to its users’ well-being, combat loneliness, social isolation and exclusion. We want it to become a place of sanctuary and a place to meet others, bringing people together to build a stronger local community. Work has been brought forward to the week commencing 29 July 2019, and in the meantime four new seats have arrived so that customers can sit on the patio and enjoy the sunshine.
